Snappy Nappy Rules Review

Snappy Nappy is an Independent Game created by Russ Lockwood and published by On Military Matters.  It is a strategic Napoleonic game meant to be 10 players plus that spans multiple tables.  It is truly a unique gaming experience that I do love.  Before I grade it I will say it is one of my favorite games but I will not let that interfere with my objectivity.

My Reviews are going to be graded like classes in College; A,B,C,D,E.  At the end we will get a GPA which will determine if this game makes distinguished honor roll, honor roll, passes or fails.  A good game should at least pass with a C average.

The categories I will be grading are 1) Presentation/Product/Package, 2) Game Rules/Mechanics, 3) Historical/fantasy Cannon Accuracy, 4) Cost/time, 5) Good Time and Memories

1). Presentation/product and package.  Snappy Nappy is just a rule book, a black and white rule book.  There are no miniatures, no supplements, there is a great blog though! Blunders on the Danube.  Since the package is just the rules and there is very little else to support it I will have to give it a lower grade.

C-

2). Game Rules/Mechanics.  The game rules are fascinating with a core system based on orders.  One player plays the role of CinC for each side and sends orders through the game GM to the other players on other tables and tries to coordinate large armies across the country side.  The turn sequence is a little clunky though and can be simplified.  Also, there are so many modifiers.  You will need your calculator to play.

B

3). Historical Accuracy.  This game is portraying the strategic level game play.  Where maneuver and organization is so important to Napoleonic warfare.  It achieves that.  Though sometimes the rules don't often result in the meat grinder of some battles historically it does achieve some great results.

A-

4). Cost/Time.  Cost is a great plus.  Since each unit is only 2 stands of figures, you don't need Black Powder amount of stands.  You can play large campaigns with the armies you already have.  Time though is a little bit of a negative.  Because there is no supplements, You have to create everything from the tables to the maps and to the rosters.  It takes time to do that as a GM.  Several weeks of research and effort.

B-

5). Good Times and Memories.  This is the strongest category.  Playing one game of Snappy Nappy will have you talking about your part in the battle.  Because the battles involve so many players that you have to share your side of the story because not everyone will know what happened on your end of the countryside

A

GPA is 3.02.   Snappy Nappy is a solid Game.  Give it a try
