"Victory at Sea" North Atlantic possibilities

This week we played a small Victory at Sea game.  Kenny played the British and Aidan played the Germans.  This is a fictional encounter using the points based system in Victory at Sea.

Aidan's German Fleet consisted of 4 ships.  The Main Battleship KMS Bismarck, followed by the 2 pocket battleships the KMS Scharnhorst and KMS Gneisenau.  The KMS Prinz Eugen cruiser was the final ship.

Kenny's British Fleet Had the HMS Hood leading the fleet supported by the HMS Prince of Wales as the KGV class battleship.  3 Cruisers,  HMS Dido, HMS Belfast and HMS Edinburgh.  With 2 small destroyers as a screening force.  The British Fleet has the numbers but the Germans have the power.  We will see who will win!

The 2 fleets closed in on each other.  The Kriegsmarine drew the first blood by crippling the HMS Belfast on turn 3 at the guns of the Bismarck.  But that did not deter Kenny from his mission to sink the Bismarck.

As the Game went on, Kenny would loose the 2 destroyers before they could do much but he was able to sink the Scharnhorst with the powerful guns of the Prince of Wales.  Kenny maintained much of his fire on the Bismarck. Eventually Crippling it and setting it on fire.  But the Bismarck came at a price.  He lost the Hood, Dido and Edinburgh to take the Bismarck out.  The Prince of Wales had some damage but not much.  The Prince of Wales almost destroyed the Prinz Eugen before she escaped the table.  Leaving a one on one engagement but Kenny wisely took the Prince of Wales out of combat and retreated.  The KMS Gneisenau was the only ship left on the field of play.  And she had no damage.

The victory this day goes to Aidan.
