Blood Red Skies Game Review

Blood Red Skies is a World War 2 Aerial Combat Game Produced by Warlord Games.  It is a simple fast game and let's see how it compares to other table top games.

My Reviews are going to be graded like classes in College; A,B,C,D,E.  At the end we will get a GPA which will determine if this game makes distinguished honor roll, honor roll, passes or fails.  A good game should at least pass with a C average.

The categories I will be grading are 1) Presentation/Product/Package, 2) Game Rules/Mechanics, 3) Historical/fantasy Cannon Accuracy, 4) Cost/time, 5) Good Time and Memories

1) Presentation/Product/Package.  Normally when we talk about a warlord games product we are talking top of the line.  Blood Red Skies is not one of the top products at warlord games and it does show.  The model planes are nice but the rule book is not what I would call Warlord standard.  Though I will say the QRS is great.

B

2) Game rules/mechanics.  I like that the win conditions is a morale based component not a casualty based.  Adds uniqueness to the game.  The rules do provide chaotic dog fight combat which does look cool on the table with the scrum of planes.  The rules work.  I will admit that this is the only air combat game I have played so far.  I do not have much to compare it too.

B+

3) Historical Accuracy. The rules are very generic and don't add WW2 flavor.  The cards for the different planes are the only flavor for the game.  Yes the Zero was faster so they move farther on the table but only by an inch.  Most of the distinction between the planes is minimal at best.

C

4) Cost/Time.  This is the highlight of Blood Red skies.  One of the cheapest table top games to buy.  you can get the starter box from amazon.  (That's what I bought).  And you have a good game.  Easy to paint and in less than 2 hours you have a complete game.

A

5) Good Times.  Blood Red Skies gives you a good WW2 Air Combat game.  You will never leave unsatisfied.

B

GPA for Blood Red Skies is 3.06.  A good game to get started on.
