Testing our new war-game "Summer of '63"

My brother Jonathan and I are working and writing our very own historical wargame.  It will be an American Civil War Game.  But instead of another 'tactical' version of fire and fury.  We are taking our war-game in a very different direction.  We both like the strategic gameplay and campaign play that Snappy Nappy offers for napoleonic wargaming.  So we asked ourselves can we adapt the Snappy Nappy or take the concept and create a war game of our own.

That is giving birth to "Summer of '63."  Though there are some similarities between Snappy Nappy and "Summer of '63."  You will notice when we release the game we have changed many game mechanics to fit the American Civil War.  First and foremost, the charts are simplified and you do not need an advanced math degree to figure out a roll.  The Turn Sequence is also inspired more by "Little Wars TV" "Live Free or Die."  The Simultaneous movement and firing speed up the game and allow you to play a campaign in an afternoon which is our goal.

But the most important change for us is we wanted leaders to matter more.  Most games, Leaders I feel are almost useless, "Black Powder," "Live Free or Die," and "Snappy Nappy."  All those leaders feel useless to gameplay.  Our Leaders are being developed into something more meaningful that their effect will be felt on the Battlefield and if you command "Jackson's" Corps you will feel the aura of Jackson on the table.  We will keep those rules secret for now but trust me.  They are different and very effective.  Leaders do matter and just like the Civil War.  Your leaders are also very mortal!

Another twist to our rule book is the win and loss conditions.  One of the things that we are adding to our rules is Casualty percentage as a criteria for losing a battle.  Most war-games are lets Samurai charge because there is no tomorrow but that is not accurate to recreate a historical war game.  So if you are a No Tomorrow player, you will loose every game.  Be Aware.  I hope that you will be just as excited as we are and we hope that you will want to try "Summer of '63" when it comes out.

The first Big Game test will take place at Living Hope Alliance Church later this spring.  If you want to participate let us know!
