Oregon Trail Card Game. Rule Review.

If you are like me, you played this game on your school computer for ages.  So when the Card Game came out. You had to buy it!!!!  Let's see how it holds up...

My Reviews are going to be graded like classes in College; A,B,C,D,E.  At the end we will get a GPA which will determine if this game makes distinguished honor roll, honor roll, passes or fails.  A good game should at least pass with a C average.

The categories I will be grading are 1) Presentation/Product/Package, 2) Game Rules/Mechanics, 3) Historical/fantasy Cannon Accuracy, 4) Cost/time, 5) Good Time and Memories

1) Product.  Oregon Trail the Card game is a small game box with decent quality cards to play with a poor grave yard marker system but that is not needed for game play.  Overall it is presentable as a game.

B

2) Game Rules.  You have trail cards to make your path to Oregon and you do what the card says.  If you cross a river and fail a dice roll you loose a precious supply card or you may be forced to pick up a dreaded calamity card.  Be careful you can die of a snake bite.  The reality is that the game is very difficult to win.  In fact, 95% of the games I play everyone dies.  The Oregon Trail according to these rules is littered with the bones of unworthy people.

C

3) Historical Accuracy.  Now am I comparing it to the Game in school or to the real Oregon trail journey.  or like the movie 300 is it based on the graphic novel not the history.  I will compare it to both and give an average score.  If I compare it to the game in school...A easy.  You never won that game either.  Compare it to the real thing.  I guess you could come across all of these dangers but some people did survive it.

B

4) Cost/time.  It's a cheap game from Barnes and Nobles and takes 30 minutes to play.  Great game to play multiple times in an evening.

A

5) Good Times.  Yes you have fun making fun of Charity who died on Card 5 to a snake bite but the wheel of fate gets you 5 cards later....

B-

And the final result is..... 2.94.  It's a game you play once a year have fun and then remember why you play it only once a year.  I can never make it to Oregon!!!!!
