The First Game, "Altar of Freedom"

My first look into table top gaming began back in 2021when I discovered Little Wars TV on Youtube.  I have a degree in history and I love modeling so for the first time I thought I found the best hobby ever.  My absolute favorite period of history is the American Civil War.  So of course I wanted to start gaming Civil War Battles on the table.  Growing up new Gettysburg makes this a forgone conclusion.  My wife bought me the rule set "Altar of Freedom" from little wars tv for Christmas and I began to by miniatures from amazon.  What I found was warlord games Epic Battle Scale Miniature brand.  I bought a couple of boxes and began to put them together.  I was not really concerned with "painting" them.  I glued them together and put a little paint on them to just get a game on the table.  (2 years later I am very embarrassed by how these look and I will address that in a future blog).

As I said, I did not really focus on Painting I wanted to play big battles after about 2 weeks I finally had enough of bases to play a small battle of "Altar of Freedom."  Then I had to figure out how to set up the table for our first war-game at Living Hope Alliance Church in Bellefonte PA.  I bought a roll of Butcher block paper, sectioned it off and copied the "Altar of Freedom" maps from the scenarios at the back of the book detail for detail.
It was fun to take the time to draw out the maps.  Here is an example of my 1st Bull Run Map.
It lead to many great games of Altar of Freedom.  Almost every time the Confederates won the battle.  It was a matter of how big were those Confederate Victories.  Our Group was only 4 people at the time.  Kenny, Aidan, James and myself.
This was only the beginning of this fun journey.  More blogs will follow.
