4th of July "Live Free or Die"

This 250th celebration we played the battle of Camden.  Mark and Spencer are the redcoats.  Mark commands the British Continental forces while Spencer commands the British regulars.  Kenny and James are the patriots.  Kenny commands the Maryland regulars while James herds the Militia units.

The British plan is simple.  Mark will approach the hill and keep the patriots occupied while the elite troops of Spencer's command go around the left flank to try and surround the patriot army.

The Patriot plan is delay and bleed.  Kenny's Maryland Brigade must hold the southern hill while James will delay the elite troops coming from the west.

The first 2 turns looked hopeless for the patriot cause.  Mark's colonial loyalists break the patriot line to easily can access to the hill.

However, Kenny rallies and for the next eight turns his Marylanders will hold Mark at bay with a very heavy cost to themselves.  3 times Mark drove them off the hill and 3 times Kenny rallied and returned.  Mark was pinned in this position for the rest of the game.  The fate of the battle depended on Spencer and James interaction.  Spencer enters the game on turn 4 of 10.  Does he have enough time?

Spencer took 6 turns but the infamous Tarleton broke the Militia lines and murdered 500 patriots in the process.  Spencer's British Regulars held the remaining Patriots in place.  But James superior dice rolling and Spencer's lack thereof left the game only as a minor victory for the British.  The Patriot spent plenty of blood to hold them back in a game that came down to the final rolls.  Join us next time...
