Blood and Plunder Rule Review
Blood and Plunder is a game by firelock games to recreate the age of Pirates in the New World. Want to play as Blackbeard or the Spanish or even Native Americans. This is your Game.
My Reviews are going to be graded like classes in College; A,B,C,D,E. At the end we will get a GPA which will determine if this game makes distinguished honor roll, honor roll, passes or fails. A good game should at least pass with a C average.
The categories I will be grading are 1) Presentation/Product/Package, 2) Game Rules/Mechanics, 3) Historical/fantasy Cannon Accuracy, 4) Cost/time, 5) Good Time and Memories
1) Product. Firelock games provides everything for their game. The rules, The miniatures, the markers and the unit cards. It is the complete package. My only complaint is the rulebook is not organized well and you find yourself constantly going back and forth from page to page to find an answer to a rule question.
A-
2). Game Rules. Blood and Plunder is a d10 based system which is not hard to memorize and roll. The game is card activation for initiative and activation. I like the creativity with this card activation because the card game becomes a poker like atmosphere in a tavern where pirates rest and recuperate. The Event cards are by far my favorite mechanic of the game. Every game needs chaos.
A
3) Historical Accuracy. While my historical expertise is in other areas, blood and plunder makes the age of the pirates feel real at least to my legends of pirate expectations. Each unit card is what gives the flavor and Blackbeard is terrifying while the British cannonry is beyond brilliant. You can tell the authors of the game spent a lot of time giving the game its flavor.
A
4). Cost/time. The starter box is $150 but you will need more eventually to really explore the game. It does not take long to build the ships and paint the miniatures to play a small game. But again if you want 4 or more friends to play. It will cost quite a bit more.
B+
5) Good times. Be prepared to laugh all evening. One of the best table top games I have ever played.
A
And the final GPA is......
3.80. One of the highest GPA I have ever given! This is a must play game.
